Having a sleep lab test?

Having a sleep lab test? Here’s some advice from recent Christie Clinic Sleep Center patients

It may save time to arrive wearing your sleep clothes.

If you don’t feel comfortable showing up in PJs, you can wear a loose t-shirt and elastic-waist pants. Just be sure your clothes are comfy enough for a good night’s sleep.

Pack lightly. But don’t forget anything important!

The more items you bring with you, the easier it is to lose track and leave something behind. Think through your usual nightly routine and bring all the items you will need, for example:

  • Eyeglasses
  • Contact lens case
  • Toothbrush/toothpaste
  • Denture case
  • “Must have” pillow
  • Bedtime medications

Don’t plan on having a lot of spare time to do anything else.

We keep you pretty busy! We will ask you some questions about your sleep and explain the various sensors, and before you know it, it’s bedtime.

The next day may be a “bad hair day”.

We stick several sensors to your scalp to detect the depth of your sleep. They are held in place with a gooey substance that may leave residue in your hair. So if you are scheduling a hair appointment, wait until after your sleep test.

Above all, relax.

Every day, patients comment on Christie Clinic’s team of friendly and knowledgeable techs, and the comfortable surroundings at our sleep lab. We will put you at ease!
